Rob Reed

Rob Reed self-deprecatingly calls himself a ‘Romantic Realist’ and his almost melancholic paintings are certainly founded upon the romantic notion of the sublime to be found in nature; it’s just that he is able to find it in places that many of us would summarily dismiss.

While the locations are not specific, they are generic places which we can all recognise and which evoke our own individual associations. His intention is to create contemplative paintings that offer an alternate reading of an apparently mundane, moribund and overlooked place and thereby to encourage our recognition of its unique qualities and further to reassess our own notions of the idyllic landscape.
