A Distant Mirror
GBS Fine Art are pleased to announce a new exhibition of complementary work by two photographic artists, Emily Allchurch and Martin Prothero.
Entitled A Distant Mirror, it consists of Allchurch’s highly praised recent series The Six Seasons, her personal interpretation of Bruegel’s famous suite of paintings, and Xenia, the new series of elaborate still lives by Martin Prothero, his hommage to the Dutch genre paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries. This will be the first time Allchurch’s series will have been exhibited at full size in the same room — as were the original Bruegel paintings in Flemish merchant, Nicolaes Jonghelinck’s Antwerp townhouse — and takes place prior to an exhibition in the spring of next year at the National Trust’s Upton House in Warwickshire.
We will be hosting a couple of private lunches with the artists in the gallery on November 22nd and 29th.
